Tezpur also know as Sonitpur in ancient time is situated on the northern bank of Brahmaputra river. It is 181 kms. away from Guwahati. The great mythological war was believed to have fought between Hari and Hara and as a result the whole city was said to have drenched with blood. Thus the name Tezpur came. Nearest airport is Saloni 10 kms. from Tezpir and railway station is Tezpur. Tezpur is a sub-line railway station. The 3 kms. long Kalia Bhomora Bridge over the Brahmaputra connects Tezpur with the south bank Silghat (Nagaon). Tezpur is well connected by bus services with all towns of Assam.
