Physiography
Nestling at the foothills of the Himalayas, Assam is popularly known as the land of blue hills and red rivers.
There are hardly a few states of India which have such vast fertile valleys, dense forest numerous rivers and lofty hills. the mighty river Brahmaputra along the bank and their tributaries have nourished it from time immemorial. The long range of hills from east to west have dived her into two major valleys, Brahmaputra and Barak or Surma valley. In between these valley there are Barail mountain range, Rengma and Karbi hills, full of dense forest and rare wild lives.
