The culture of Assam is a rich tapestry woven with multicoloured yarns of distinct heritage of all the races that inhabit of her numerous races have made Assam the home of the most colourful festivals. Most of the festivals celebrated in Assam have their roots in the diverse faith and belief of her inhabitants, but a sprit of accommodation and togetherness characterizes the celebration of all festivals. The Assamese hindus celebrate Dewali, Holi, Durga Puja, Saraswati Puja, Lakhsmi Puja, Kali Puja and other festivals. The Vaishnavas who do not believe in idol worship performs "Nam Kirtan" and celebrates the birth and death anniversary of Shri Sankardeva and Madhabdeva. Those of Islamic faith celebrates Idd and Muharram. Tribals of Assam have their own colourful festivals like Kherai Puja of the Bodos, the Baikhu and Pharkantis of the Rabhas. Ali-ai-leigang and Parag by the Mising and son on.
However the most important festivals of Assam are the Bihus, celebrated with joy and abundance by all Assamese faith and belief. The most colourful of the three Bihus, Bohag Bihu or Rangali Bihu which is the spring festival and celebrated in the middle of April. The Tea garden community celebrates their own festivals.
